'It is that joyous rarity, a work of sophisticated artistic ambition and deep political purpose that affords nonstop pleasure'
Time Magazine'A sparkling, bittersweet and magical show... one of the great works of the American musical theatre'
Sunday Times'Spellbinding... a Sondheim classic that interweaves different fairy-tales in a witty act of deconstruction compounded by tart aperçus about life's thorny journey'
Telegraph'Sondheim's extraordinary collaboration with James Lapine... a classic, jokily wise, intelligently absurd musical fantasy... spiky Sondheim music and arresting lyrics you take away for ever, wild wit, looming menace, dry jokes... a harshly wise, hilariously serious reflection on the vanity of wishes and the power of childlike imagination in a world of flawed adults... an absolute five-star marvel'
