Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729–1781) was a German writer, philosopher, dramatist, publicist and art critic, and an outstanding representative of the Enlightenment era. His plays and theoretical writings substantially influenced the development of German literature. He is widely considered by theatre historians to be the first dramaturg in his role at Abel Seyler's Hamburg National Theatre.

Adrian Lester is an award-winning British actor. He won a Critics' Circle Theatre Award in 2013 for his performance as Ira Aldridge in Red Velvet. On screen, his work includes Hustle, Primary Colours and The Day After Tomorrow.

Tracy Letts is an American playwright, screenwriter and actor, and is an ensemble member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. He is the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play August: Osage County.

Steven Levenson is an American playwright whose plays include If I Forget, The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin, Core Values, The Language of Trees, and Seven Minutes in Heaven. He wrote the book for the musical Dear Evan Hansen. He was a writer and producer on Showtime's Masters of Sex.

Andrea Levy (1956–2019) was an English author best known for the novels Small Island (2004) and The Long Song (2010). She was born in London to Jamaican parents, and her work explores topics related to British Jamaicans and how they negotiate racial, cultural and national identities.

Mike Lew is a Chinese-American playwright whose plays include Teenage Dick, Tiger Style!, Bike America, microcrisis, Moustache Guys, and the book to the musical Bhangin’ It.

He is co-director of Ma-Yi Writers Lab, the largest collective of Asian-American playwrights in the US.
