Two Billion Beats (short play version)

By Sonali Bhattacharyya
Published in volume Inside/Outside

Seventeen-year-old Asha is an emphatic rebel, unafraid of pointing out the hypocrisy around her. Her younger sister, Bettina, wide-eyed and naïve, is just trying to get through the school day without getting her pocket money nicked.

Sonali Bhattacharyya's short play Two Billion Beats is an insightful and funny coming-of-age story about the unfairness of growing up in a world where you don't make the rules. It was first performed as part of Inside/Outside, a season of short plays staged at, and livestreamed from, the Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond, in March 2021.

It is published in the collection Inside/Outside.

Also available: a revised, full-length version of Two Billion Beats, premiered at the Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond, in February 2022.
