Applying for a Performance Licence

Thank you for your interest in applying to perform a Nick Hern Books play or musical.

If you’ve licensed a show from us before, you might notice we’ve made some changes to this page, so please read the information below in order to start your application.

What’s new?

To help amateur theatres, schools, youth theatres and others continue to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re currently accepting applications to perform Nick Hern Books shows online. You can read all about our Online Performances here.

These online performances follow a different application process – so in order to start your application, please choose the option below that best describes the production you’re planning, and follow the link to the relevant application form. This will help us gather all of the information we need to process your application as quickly and smoothly as possible.

We know every production is different – so if you have any questions about which option is most relevant to your particular situation, or indeed about anything else concerning performance licences, please feel free to email our Performing Rights Department at rights@nickhernbooks.co.uk.

Please read the following descriptions below, and choose the one that best describes your planned production.
