John Byrne's play Writer's Cramp tells the life story of Francis Seneca McDade, an aspiring writer and would be artist from Paisley, whose work went bafflingly undetected for so long on the 'deciduous tree of Scottish literature'.
One of the funniest plays of the 1970s, Writer's Cramp was first performed at the Calton Studios, Edinburgh, in August 1977, and opened at the Bush Theatre, London, in November that year.
